Please remember that New York State requires children less than 14 to wear a helmet while biking, skateboarding, in-line skating and riding scooters. If affordability of the helmets is an issue, the Hornell Police Department’s “Keep Your Head in the Game” program can help.
Through a grant from the The New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, the Hornell Police Department has purchased safety helmets for free distribution to those families in our city that may be having trouble affording them for their children. We currently have helmets available for ages 1+ and 3-5 and are working on obtaining more sizes as they become available.
