Hornell Police Training Program For Active Shooter Situations

February 25, 2018

HORNELL, NY – Statement From Hornell Police Captain Mike Sexsmith:

The Hornell Police Department recently presented the program Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) to employees of the Hornell YMCA (Pictured). CRASE was developed by the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training program (ALERRT) at Texas State University and is meant to prepare civilians to take immediate action to save their own lives in the case of an active shooter situation. What you do matters! The program covers the stages of disaster response, the concept of Avoid, Deny, Defend, what to do when law enforcement arrives and more. The CRASE program is offered by the Hornell Police Department free of charge to any civilian group including schools, businesses, civic organizations, faith-based organizations and others. For more information about the CRASE program or to schedule a program for your group please contact Capt. Mike Sexsmith at 607-324-2860 or msexsmith@cityofhornell.com
