August 26, 2015

HORNELL, NY – The Hornell school board held a special meeting this morning. On the agenda, the final school tax warrant for the 2015-2016 school year, which was approved by the school board. The board of education approved the following: $18.93 per thousand on assessed property value, the rate is a $.29 cent increase from last year’s rate of $18.62.

School superintendent Doug Wyant says there was no gap elimination adjustment money taken from the Hornell School System this year by Albany. “We didn’t have any money taken from us this year, so the amount of aid the we receive will depend on how they apply the aid formula,” Wyant told WLEA News after this morning’s board of education meeting.

Officials say that the gap elimination adjustment still exists for some schools.

Senator Tom O’Mara says that he hopes that the gap elimination adjustment will be completely gone statewide, by next year.
