Hornell School Budget Update

HORNELL, NY – The Hornell School District will present voters with a 1.24 percent levy increase in this year’s budget. That was approved Wednesday night at the regular monthly board of education meeting. School Superintendent Jeremy Palotti says it’s expected that there will Be an increase of 3% in foundation aid And about a 4 % decrease in transportation ai

In other Hornell school news, the school board is in talks for getting another SRO for the North Hornell School, as the current SRO is part time, dividing their time between North Hornell and Arkport Central. Superintendent Palotti says, he’s been speaking with more than one potential candidate for that job.

Also, the high school student government did a survey of both students and staff, about wearing hats inside the school. They report that the majority of those surveyed say they believe that wearing hats is okay.
Those students that objected say the big concern is whether hats would come off during the pledge of allegiance. The student govt wants the school board to change the handbook so hats are allowed in the 2023-2024 school year The school board will loook at this over the summer

In other odds and ends, Hornell’s School System has received $28,000 from the Juul e-cigarette class action settlement.
