For the second straight day, Hornell battled in a pitchers duel. Tuesday, the Steamers came out on top with a 2-1 victory over the Genesee Rapids.
The game was scoreless until the 4th when Jackson Legg (LSU Eunice) doubled and Brody Langlotz (Gulf Coast CC) reached on an error. Finn Ellis (U of Charleston) loaded the bases with a single and Markus Brehm (Finger Lakes CC) delivered a two run single into left.
In the 5th, Genesee cut the lead in half when Dawson George scored from third when Ellis threw out a base runner trying to advance to second.
Both teams had chances but could not score the rest of the way. Starting pitchers Jeremy Yanow (Webster) and Jordan Talbot were excellent. Yanow allowed just two hits and the one unearned run in five innings of work. He walked five and struck out four. Talbot went seven innings and allowed four hits and one earned run. He walked one and struck out two.
Hornell’s bullpen came up clutch as a trio of Steamers held the lead. Logan Hoyt (Alfred State) allowed one hit and a walk while striking out two in the 6th. Shawn Kimball (Genesee CC) allowed one hit and struck out three in two innings of work and Alex Dupuy (LSU Eunice) got the final three outs after the first two batters of the 9th reached.
Legg was the only player in the contest with multiple hits finishing 2 for 3 with two doubles.
Hornell hits the road on Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. game vs. the Horseheads Hitmen.
