The Hornell Steamers ran their winning streak to eight games with a 13-5 victory at Horseheads on Friday evening. Hornell is now 21-7-1 on the year.
Matt Procopio hit a solo homer in the 1st to give Horseheads the early lead before the Steamers answered with six runs in the top of the 2nd.
Markus Brehm (Finger Lakes CC) hit a two run homer and Devin Mersmann (Alfred State) followed with a three-run shot of his own. Jackson Legg (LSU Eunice) capped the big inning with a RBI double.
AJ Brotz hit a solo homer in the 2nd but Nicolas Schwing (Holmes JC) answered with a two-run single to make it 8-2.
Procopio collected his second solo homer in the 3rd and John Franco hit a solo shot in the 6th.
Hornell made it 10-4 in the 7th when Schwing hit a two-run single.
Lucas Granger collected a RBI double in the 7th but the Steamers capped the scoring with three solo homers in the final two innings. Alex Dupuy (LSU Eunice) connected in the 8th before Schwing and Mersmann went back to back in the 9th.
Schwing was 4 for 5 with 5 RBI while Braden McLin (Louisiana Christian) was 3 for 4. Brehm and Rustin Pope (Coastal Alabama North CC) were each 3 for 5. Mersmann was 2 for 5 with 4 RBI, Dupuy was 2 for 5, and Elijah Nichols (Arkansas State) was 2 for 6.
Mason McClurg (Finger Lakes CC) earned the win with six innings of work. Danik Reed (Nunez CC) tossed two innings and Dupuy got the final three outs to close the game.
Hornell returns home for the first time in over a week on Saturday when they host the Salamanca Lizards. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
