HPD to Conduct Community Response to Active Shooter Program with Alstom Employees

HORNELL, NY – At Thursday mornings Board of Public Safety meeting Police Capt. Mike Sexsmith announced that his department is currently training all Alstom employees on how to respond in the event of an active shooter on the premises.

According to Sexsmith, the program started yesterday and will be held every Wednesday for the entire month. “We are looking to train 800 employees throughout the month,” explained Sexsmith, “And that is a pretty big job.”

Sexsmith said that they will run 3 classes a day once a week for a total of around 13 classes. “The feedback from people taking the classes has been very good after the first classes yesterday,” said the Capt., “and we hope that continues.”

In miscellaneous news, the board approved 3 events coming up this summer. The first is a Family Fun Day to be held August 31st at Shawmut Park from noon to around 4pm. There will be free hotdogs, games, prizes, face painting, a bounce house, and music.

Another event the board approved was the 2nd Annual Amvet Riders Bike Show. That will be held on August 3rd behind the Amvets club from 4pm to around 8pm.The last request was for a street closing and block party on Willow Place on July 20th. All 3 events were given a green light by the board.
