Jacob C. “Jake” Whiteman, of Hornell

HORNELL-Jacob C. “Jake” Whiteman, AKA “Uncle Money”, 28, of Hornell died unexpectedly Sunday morning (January 10, 2021) in Hornell.

A native & life resident of the Hornell area, he was born on February 6, 1992. He attended Hornell High School and later received his General Education Diploma (GED).

Throughout the years, Jake had been employed at Hornell Furniture Outlet (HFO) as a delivery person; as a cook at Applebee’s’ Restaurant and in the kitchen of Elderwood at Hornell Nursing Facility. He had a deep appreciation of the outdoors and enjoyed camping & fishing. He also loved playing video games.

Jake was affectionately known as the “Family Jokester” and the “Life of the Party.” He was always ready with a smile and his goal was to make you laugh. Jake was looking forward to serving as “Best Man” for his lifelong pal, Joey Livengood and organizing his bachelor’s party which was to be held in Las Vegas, NV in the near future. Joey is engaged to Jake’s sister, Haley.

He was preceded by his maternal grandfather, Archie Knight; his paternal grandparents, Tom & Nancy Whiteman.

Jake was married on November 16, 2015 to the former Kaitlin “Kait” Dioguardi who survives. Also surviving are his son & “Best Bud”, Dean Whiteman; his mother, Karen (William) Sutfin of Hornell; his father, David (Lisa) Whiteman of Hornell; his siblings, Joseph (Jean) Whiteman of Hornell, Heather (Curtis) Stanford of Hornell, Haley (Joseph Livengood) Whiteman of Hornell, PVT Robert Bush, SC, Roben (Eric James) Brown of Hornell, Natasha Judkins of Hornell, Jessica Davis of Bath, Taylor Davis of Hornell, Andrew (Megan) Sutfin of Rochester, Naomi (Martin) Nelson of Dahlgren, VA and Angela (Nick) Speegle of DuPont, WA; maternal grandmother, Gertrude Knight of Canisteo, his lifelong friend & “brother”, Jeremiah Wilder; his biological father, Thomas Jackson Jr; many cousins, nieces & nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.

Jake’s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to the Suicide Prevention Center of New York, 44 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12229.
