James A. Schmitz, of Arkport

ARKPORT-James A. Schmitz, 78, passed away Tuesday evening (Feb. 10, 2015) at his home on Evergreen Drive.

 
Born in Hornell on Sept. 8, 1936, he was the son of the late Francis George and Vera Marie Fisher Schmitz.

 
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Jim proudly served his country from 1955 to his honorable discharge in 1959.

 
He was employed as a welder at for the former Foster-Wheeler Co. in Dansville before his retirement.

 
Jim enjoyed bowling and also loved long drives through the country side looking at all the animals.

 
His loving family includes his wife of 55 years, the former Ida Newell, who he married in Cuba, N.Y. in 1960; his daughter, Sue Dailey of Canisteo; his three grandchildren, Shawn (Stacy) Dailey of Buffalo, Nicholas Dailey of Canisteo and Staci (Jared) Zigenfus of Hornell; also his great-granddaughter, Nora Zigenfus.
