James M. Connors, of Hornell

HORNELL-James M. Connors, 84, passed away Wednesday morning (Oct. 24, 2018) at his home on Pine Street, after a long illness.

Born in Hornell on Aug. 8, 1934 he was a son of the late George and Anna (Morris) Connors. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his twin brother, Gerard “Buz” Connors; his brother, William Connors and his brother-in-law, John Conti.

A lifelong resident of Hornell, Jim was a graduate of St. Ann’s School, Hornell High School, class of 1952 and also graduated from the University of Buffalo School of Pharmacy in 1957.

At one time he was employed at the former Dunn’s Drug Store in Hornell and from 1963 until his retirement in 1997 he owned and operated Connors Pharmacy in Hornell. After he retired he was associated with the former Eckerd’s Drug Store in Hornell.

He was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church and the former St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Hornell, a member of the University of Buffalo Alumni Assoc. and a Fourth-Degree member of the Hornell Council No. 243, Knights of Columbus.

Jim loved attending Buffalo Bills games and especially enjoyed cooking for tail gate parties.

His loving family includes his wife of 58 years, the former Catherine “Katie” Witherow, who he married at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell on Apr. 23, 1960; his four children, Timothy Connors of Hornell, John (Angie) Connors of Mountain Top, Pa., Elizabeth (Greg) DeLaus of Penfield and Michael Connors of Lockport, Ill.; his two grandchildren, Matthew and Catherine DeLaus; his brother, George (Barbara) Connors of Fairport; his sister, Joan Conti of Lewiston; also his sister-in-law, Eileen Connors of Hornell; as well as his many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours are 4-7 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 28, 2018) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Relatives and friends are invited to join his family at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday (Oct. 29, 2018). Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
