Jessica Cleveland Endorses Buckley For Mayor

August 16, 2017

HORNELL, NY – Hornell Common Council member Jessica Cleveland (R, 6th Ward) issued the following statement on Wednesday night:

Two short years ago, my introduction to public service began with a decision to run for City Alderman for the 6th ward of Hornell. It was at time I met John Buckley, who I’ve come to value as a mentor as a public servant, and also a good friend. It gives me great pleasure to endorse John Buckley for Mayor for the City of Hornell.
Over the past two years, working side by side on the Common Council, I have become familiar with John and recognize many of his qualities that I believe would be well suited for our next Mayor. John has the experience, intelligence, and awareness of city government and how it operates to lead the city. He takes his role as Deputy Mayor seriously, fielding calls from all residents of the city and working to alleviate their concerns. He also checks in and works closely with city departments to assist with being sure they have what they need to provide the services they do to our city residents. As a new Alderman, whenever I’ve had a question of how to handle a concern, John is my first contact. One of the most important components of public service is its responsibility to the people it serves. I recently attended a couple of John’s summer porch tours, and I’ve seen first-hand how he recognizes and responds to the people of the City of Hornell. It is in these times I’ve seen John the most energized and responsive. It is clear he really enjoys improving the quality of life for the city residents.
Another trait I most respect of John is his work ethic. John recognizes the value of hard work and grass roots connections. I’ll never forget campaigning and following through with the advice of visiting with almost every house in the 6th ward, and being proud of myself for doing so, and John’s response was, “Keep going. Do it again! Keep talking to people. Go two and three times!” I’ve received follow up messages and emails from John dated at 6am and others at 11pm. He works a full-time job and on his days off, he will check in with city departments. In addition to this, he is the Chairman of the Hornell Republican Committee, assisting local candidates with their campaigns, as well as providing the Hornell connection to the state and federal candidates, like State Assemblyman Joe Errigo, State Senator Tom O’Mara, and Congressman Tom Reed.
The City of Hornell has been fortunate to have Shawn Hogan as our leader for the past 32 years. Thanks to this great leadership, I believe our city is experiencing the greatest trajectory of positive growth in recent years. It is vital our next mayor has the experience, intelligence, work ethic, and political clout to maintain Hornell’s growth, and I believe John Buckley is the best candidate for the job. I am proud to endorse John Buckley for Mayor for the City of Hornell.
