Joan Duffy, of Hornell

HORNELL- Joan Duffy, 85 of 222 Vincent St., passed away Sunday November 1st at McAuley Manor in Hornell, after a short illness.

Born in Ft. Wayne, Ind. on July 14, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Iola (Riopelle) Foreman. In 1957 she was married in Angelica, NY. to Owen J. Duffy who predeceased her on September 13, 2015.

 

A Resident of Hornell for most of her life, Joan attended Hornell High School and was employed at the former Merrill Hosiery, and retired from Dyco Electronics in Hornell.

 

She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cpl. J.J. Mooney VFW Post No. 2250 in Hornell and enjoyed camping and traveling; Joan especially enjoyed their trips to Las Vegas.

 

Her loving family includes four children, Michael (Eleanor) Duffy, of Hornell, Robert (Rolleen) Duffy of Fremont, Lorie Duffy of Bishopville and Susan Duffy of Hornell; her four grandchildren, Michael and Patrick Duffy and Anthony “Tony”, Nichole; her two great-grandchildren, Brayden and Deanna; Besides her parents and husband Owen, she was also predeceased by her sisters Velma Acker, her twin sister Jean Merithew, Barbara Kraft, a brother and a grandson Joseph.

 

Calling hours are from 12-2 on Wednesday November 4, 2015, at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell where a service will follow at 2pm.Committal services and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.

 

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, N.Y. 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
