Joseph G. Soper, of Painted Post, formerly of Canisteo

PAINTED POST/CANISTEO: Joseph G. Soper, 86, of Steuben St. Painted Post, formerly of County Route 29 Canisteo, passed away Saturday (May 27, 2017) at the home of his son Daniel Soper on Goodhue Lake, Addison.

Joe was born June 26, 1930 in Terrytown, Pa. to the late Herbert L. and Ethel (Dull) Soper. On July 16, 1955 in Buffalo he married the former Jenny M. Falcone who predeceased him in Sept. of 1997.

Joe was a graduate of LeRaysville Pike High School in Pa. and was also a graduate of Penn State University. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1953-55 during the Korean War.

Joe and his wife, Jenny, lived the better part of their lives in the Canisteo Valley where he was a dairy farmer and where he and Jenny raised their six children. He was a member of the former St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Canisteo where he was on the parish council of churches. He had taught vocational Agriculture at the Northern Area Joint Schools in Warren County, Pa. and had also substituted in Canisteo Central and Arkport Central schools.

Joe is survived by one daughter and five sons, 6 grandchildren, several great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm Saturday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo where a memorial service will take place immediately following calling hours at 2:00 pm. Burial with military honors will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fremont.
