FROM JASPER TROUPSBURG SUPERINTENDENT JASON OLIVER:
Greenwood School Update
Our community is incredibly fortunate to have such supportive neighbors in Canisteo-Greenwood. Jasper-Troupsburg was able to relocate our students in grades 7–12 to the Greenwood campus in September 2021. We’ve continued this partnership as we work through the FEMA process to determine the best long-term outcome for the Jasper building.
Future of the Jasper Building
We were just about a week away from presenting our final plans to FEMA to restore the original Jasper building when a second 100-year flood struck the community in August 2024. Since then, the district has been actively advocating for a directed relocation. In simple terms, this means we’re working to meet the federal government’s criteria to move the building to a safer location.
It remains our intention to fully rebuild a school for the JT community. We’re hopeful that FEMA will recognize the importance of relocating the building to a site that ensures the safety of our students and staff. We do not believe rebuilding on the current site is a responsible or sustainable use of taxpayer funds. We’re expecting an answer soon and are optimistic about a positive outcome for our district.
