June Dennis, of Canisteo

CANISTEO: June R. Dennis, 80, of County Route 21, passed away Monday (May 19, 2014) at her home following a short illness.

June was born June 5, 1933 in Hume, N.Y. to William and Hazel (Dyke) Dieter. On February 12, 1950 in South Canisteo she married Duane Dennis who survives and resides in the town of Canisteo. She was predeceased by her parents, three sons, Gary, Loren and Rev. Donald Dennis, a daughter, Rosemarie Payne, granddaughter: Savanah Dennis, a great granddaughter: Kalie Dennis, also three brothers: James, William and Gordon Dieter and three sisters: Flora “Toots” Cook, Sharon Kelly and Linda Dixon, sister-in-law Lottie Heckart

June was a floor technician for the former Phillips Lighting Company in Bath where she had worked for over thirty years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family and cherished the time spent with family and friends. She was an avid cook and canner and loved to compete with the neighbors as to who could can the most. She also loved gardening and planting flowers and was a member of the Canisteo Wesleyan Church.

In addition to her husband of 64 years, Duane Dennis of Canisteo, June is survived by two sons: Randy (Jane) Dennis and Phillip (Hope) Dennis all of Canisteo, two daughters Nancy (William) Hadley of Troupsburg and Lisa (Frank) Pilling of Roseville, Pa. She is also survived by two daughters- in-law Deborah Dennis of Hiddenite, N.C. and Linda Dennis of Woodhull, son-in-law Larry Payne of Toccoa, GA. three brothers: Terry (Jean) Dieter of Cameron, Dwight “Ike” (Christine) Dieter of Howard and Richard Dieter of Hornell, four sisters: Louise Davis of Savona, Cora “Cookie” (Melvin) Curren of Lima, Bonnie (Philip) Giles of Groveland and Vicki Stoddard of Hornell, brother -in-law Richard Cook of Fl. sisters-in-law Nathelia (Richard) Dyring of Hornell, Audrey Dixon of Canisteo, 21 grandchildren, 47 great grand children and 2 great, great grand children, many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Friday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home 29 East Main St. in Canisteo. A funeral service will take place Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Canisteo Wesleyan Church with Pastor Donald Maynard officiating. Burial will be in North Jasper Cemetery in the Town of Jasper.
