June L. Markham, of Hornell

HORNELL-June L. Markham, 95, of Glen Ave., passed away late Friday afternoon (Jan. 8, 2016) at McAuley Manor in North Hornell.

 

Born in Bath on Sept. 14, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Josephine Burley Shattuck. On Oct. 6, 1943 she was married at St. Ann’s Rectory in Hornell to Charles M. “Chuck” Markham, who predeceased her on Jan. 8, 2002 after 59 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by all of her brothers and sisters and her daughter, Winky Markham Balloch, on Aug. 25, 2013.

 

A graduate of Haverling Central School in Bath, June has resided in Hornell since 1943 and was employed for many years as a waitress at the former Big Elms Restaurant in Hornell.

 

She was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family. June enjoyed spending time sewing and cooking.

 

Her loving family includes her two sons, John “Jack” (Linda) Markham and Patrick Markham all of Hornell; her five grandchildren, Kimberly (Richard) Edinger, Brittanie (Gary) Balloch Mulkigian, Christi Balloch, Kelly(Dave) Hamsher and Kara Markham (Jake Coon); also her 10 great-grandchildren.

 

The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of June L. Markham.

 

Calling hours are 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral and committal service will follow calling hours at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. After the funeral service everyone is cordially invited to a luncheon at The Main Place in Hornell. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.

 

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to either, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105 or to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 1855 Monroe Ave. #1, Rochester, N.Y. 14613. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
