Kathleen M. “Kate” Hillman, of Hornell

HORNELL – Kathleen M. “Kate” Hillman, 58, passed away Monday evening (Dec. 6, 2021) at her home on Glen Avenue after a long illness.

Born in Hornell on Feb. 8, 1963, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Baird) Hillman. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by two brothers, Theodore “Ted” Hillman and Robert “Jerry” Hillman.

A graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1981, Kate received a bachelor’s of science degree in Nursing from Niagara University in 1985.

She resided in Albany, Virginia and Rochester before she became employed as a traveling nurse. Throughout her career as a registered nurse she also resided in Miami, FL, West Palm Beach, FL, Cooperstown, NY, Louisville, KY, Syracuse, NY and Houston, TX. Kate eventually returned to this area and resided in Branchport, NY and continued nursing at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital in Penn Yan, NY for four years and retired from Yates County Public Health Nursing in 2011 at which time she returned to Hornell to reside.

A member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish, she was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell. Kate enjoyed knitting, needle point and football and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.

Her loving family includes one brother, John Hillman of Rochester, NY; one sister, Barbara Hillman of Forest Hill, MD; her sister-in-law, Sandy Hillman of Hornell; five nieces, Martha Hillman, Jaime (Zach) Haynes, Grace Purce, Ruth Purce and Mary (Michael) Steele; two nephews, John (Naomi) Hillman and Jack Purce; several great nieces and nephews; as well as several aunts, cousins and many friends.

There will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to join her family at St. Ann’s Church, 31 Erie Ave., Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30a.m. Saturday (Dec. 11, 2021). Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA), 505 8th Ave. #902, New York, NY 10018. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the church.
