The American people gave us a clear mandate: get our economy and the nation’s finances back on track. For the past five months, we’ve been working hard to do exactly that. Our “big, beautiful bill” delivers historic tax relief for working and middle-class Americans, incentivizes the growth of American businesses, and puts an end to the waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer dollars. Over the past several months, we’ve listened closely to stakeholders and carefully crafted legislation that strengthens the social safety net for those who truly need it. At the same time, we’ve implemented commonsense reforms like modest work requirements for able-bodied adults without dependents or other significant life challenges. The bill we just advanced from the House Energy and Commerce Committee protects Medicaid for those it was designed to serve: seniors, pregnant women, individuals with disabilities, and low-income families. Right now, however, taxpayer dollars are being spent on benefits for deceased individuals, undocumented immigrants, and able-bodied adults who simply refuse to work. That is neither fair nor sustainable. Rather than engaging in a fact-based debate, Democrats have resorted to fear-mongering, misinformation, and political theatrics. They’ve even exploited disabled individuals in committee hearings to stoke outrage over a bill that doesn’t cut a single dime from their benefits. Medicaid must be preserved – but it must also be protected from abuse. The Energy and Commerce reconciliation bill restores accountability, safeguards taxpayers, and ensures the program remains available for those who genuinely need it.
I will continue fighting for an economy that uplifts all Americans and provides for our most vulnerable. It’s time for less grandstanding and more real solutions. The American people are counting on us to deliver.
