FROM CONGRESSMAN NICK LANGWORTHY: Americans across the nation are gathering today to celebrate Labor Day, but on our nation’s 250th birthday, we have an even greater obligation to reflect on the true meaning of the holiday and the generations of Americans whose hard work, ingenuity, and determination built the greatest nation on Earth.
From the factories and farms of the Industrial Revolution to the technology and innovation driving our economy today, America has always moved forward because of the men and women willing to roll up their sleeves, take on a challenge, and get the job done. Their contributions are woven into the story of our nation, and their spirit remains at the heart of the American Dream.
Here at home in Western New York and the Southern Tier, we have lived through the peaks and valleys of the changing economic times. We have been a part of the industrial and manufacturing boom, and we have endured the suffering of when so many of those jobs moved overseas. While the economy has changed, our spirit and dedication to the place we called home has never wavered.
That’s what I love so much about our communities, and why I chose to stay, raise my own family here, and serve. It’s why I am doing everything I can to make sure that our region and its incredible workforce have the opportunity to build a great life here.
I’m enormously proud of the work we are doing to restore American manufacturing. For the first time in a long time, we are changing our policies to prioritize American made products by American workers. We need to make sure that America remains competitive, prosperous, and self-sufficient. But that’s not enough. As we look toward the next 250 years, I am focused on making sure that Western New York and the Southern Tier are the forefront of that progress, while protecting the industries we already have. That means supporting our farmers and growers, it means strengthening our skilled trades, it means growing manufacturing and making the necessary investments in our workforce to get ahead of the changes that are coming with the tech boom and AI.
This Labor Day, let us celebrate the men and women who built our country, honor those carrying that legacy forward today, and recommit ourselves to an America where hard work is rewarded, opportunity is abundant, and the next generation can proudly build an even brighter future.
