Lawmakers React, To Assembly’s Report About Andrew Cuomo

November 22, 2021

From Senator George Borrello:
“The release of the Assembly’s impeachment investigation report offers more confirmation of the harassment, duplicity, gross abuse of power and potentially criminal actions committed by our former Governor.

Evident in the report is the extent to which Cuomo and his aides strong-armed officials at NYS DOH, JCOPE and other agencies for the governor’s own personal and political benefit. These accounts reflect a truly Machiavellian mindset and underscore how profoundly New York, and New Yorkers, suffered under his leadership.

The report provides the most detailed evidence to date that the timelines for the book deal and the release of the figures on nursing home deaths directly intersected. More investigation, both civil and criminal, of this apparent conspiracy to hide the truth for political and personal gain must be a priority.

We are far from holding Andrew Cuomo accountable. It is the duty of the Judiciary Committee to continue working with authorities until justice is served.”
From Assemblyman Joe Giglio:
“The actions and decisions detailed in this report are reprehensible and prove that our former governor prioritized his personal well-being over that of this state’s residents,” said Giglio. “The findings of this report should drive us all to fight for more transparency in our state government to help ensure elected officials and appointees cannot get away with wrongdoing and violating public trust.

“I thank the victims and witnesses for their bravery in coming forward with their accounts of what transpired. It is their strength of character that allowed the public to be made aware of the alleged violations.

“This should be a clear warning that this kind of abuse of power will not be tolerated by the citizens of New York.”

From Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes:

“As a member of the Assembly Judiciary Committee, I, along with my colleagues, worked very hard to weigh the evidence presented to us fairly and without bias. What we have seen and heard has been disturbing and resulted in a report that is a scathing, yet perfectly justified, condemnation of the former governor’s actions.

“While law enforcement and the court system continue to pursue avenues to get justice for the many victims left in Cuomo’s wake, this report has exposed the truth by those of us who have examined the evidence, sustained the attorney general’s findings and substantiated any doubts that his leaving office was in the public’s best interest. I only hope that this is a lesson for my colleagues in government, and anyone in power, to conduct themselves with the highest personal ethics and respect for others.”
