Leslie Danks Burke: Sen. O’Mara Has A Blatant Conflict of Interest

May 16, 2016

TOMPKINS COUNTY, NY – State Senator Tom O’Mara (R, Big Flats) is being criticized by his opponent Leslie Danks Burke (D, Tompkins County), who says that O’Mara works for a law firm that lobbies the state senate. “It’s a blatant conflict of interest,” Danks Burke said. “The Chair of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee makes extra money by working at a law firm that lobbies on conservation issues. Senators should work for the taxpayers, and no one else,” said Danks Burke. “Not law firms, not special interests, and certainly not paid lobbyists.”

Danks Burke went on to say that O’Mara “earns such income as a partner in the law and lobbying firm Barclay Damon. O’Mara is Chairman of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee, with significant influence over conservation policies that Barclay Damon lobbies on.”

WLEA attempted to reach Senator O’Mara, but we have not heard back from his office as of yet. As soon as we do, we’ll post his response online and on the radio.
