Lila J. Coleman, formerly of Hornell

ROCHESTER/HORNELL-Lila J. Coleman, 92, of Rochester, formerly of Pine St., Hornell, passed away peacefully Sunday evening (Oct. 19, 2014) at her daughter’s home in Rochester, after a brief illness.

 
Born in Meadville, Pa. on Aug. 21, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Lee and Alice McKercher Hamilton. She was married in Hornell to Paul J. Coleman, Sr., who predeceased her in 1975. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her nine siblings.

 
A resident of Hornell for most of her life, Lila has resided in Rochester for the past four years.

 
She was employed as a telephone operator for the former Bell South and retired from St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell where she was employed in the business office and as a switchboard operator.

 
Lila was an avid gardener.

 
Her loving family includes her three daughters, Ruth Curtis (Jack Leonard), Joan Bailey and Carol Nieto (Clinton Lewis) all of Rochester; her two sons, Paul (Cindy) Coleman of Almond and John (Belinda) Coleman of Hornell; her 12 grandchildren, Tim (Beth) Curtis, Laurie (Greg) Wicker, Beau (Annie) Bailey, P.J. Coleman, Amanda (Matt) Strobel, Matthew Coleman, Caitlin Coleman, John P. Coleman, Erin O’Brien (Jean Pierre), Shannon (Kevin) Fridd, Sean O’Brien and Melissa Nieto; her 10 great-grandchildren, Claire and Sammy Curtis, Kellen and Olivia Wicker, Aubrey and Braydon Bailey, Corbin and Carter Strobel and Shane and Kaylie O’Brien-DiCecco; her sister, Glenna Wirth of Hornell; also her many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral service will be held following calling hours at 1 p.m. Saturday with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.

 
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to Camp Good Days and Special Times, 1332 Pittsford-Mendon Road, P.O. Box 665, Mendon, N.Y. 14506. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
