Local Law Enforcement Does Well, With “Toys” And “Coats” Events

December 13, 2021

“Shop with a Cop”, “Toys for Tots Fill the Patrol Car” and “Coats for Kids” Events

BATH, NY – Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on December 11, 2021, School Resource Officers, Deputies, and Officers of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Canisteo Police Department, Hornell Police Department, North Hornell Police Department, Angelica Police Department and the SUNY Alfred Police Department participated in “Shop with a Cop” at the Hornell and Erwin Walmarts. Students, identified by their school resource officers and home schools as persons who would benefit from the program were paired up with officers and deputies to shop for their family and themselves. Many regional families were served and Walmart graciously donated through grants to help support this program. The Deputies Association of the County of Steuben, Maple City Police Club, Canisteo Police Club, Steuben County Sheriff’s Foundation and other not for profit agencies also supported this program.
Immediately following the “Shop with a Cop” event, Deputies participated in the “Toys for Tots Fill the Patrol Car and Coats for Kids” event at both Erwin and Hornell Walmart plazas. From 9am to 2pm over 1,000 toys were collected for Steuben County children, as well as approximately one hundred new or gently used coats for distribution to Steuben County school districts for children in need of cold weather clothing. The generosity and charitable spirit at both events was overwhelming and indicative of the sense of community in our county.
Sheriff Allard wishes to thank all who participated, donated, visited, assisted, funded and worked to make both of these events a success which will benefit hundreds of Steuben County families during this holiday season.
