ALMOND-Louis Jack Reitnauer, 85, of Twin Valley Terrace, passed away early Wednesday morning (Aug. 5, 2015) at the Vincent House in Wayland.
Born in Hornell on May 18, 1930, he was the only child of the late Albert and Anna Collins Reitnauer. On April 5, 1958 he was married in Cuba, N.Y. to the former Mary Anne Reitz, who survives.
A graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1949, Lou proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to his honorable discharge in 1954 and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Lou has resided in Almond for the past 55 years and served as a New York State Trooper beginning his career of more than 20 years in Cattaraugus County; eventually serving in Steuben, Allegany and Monroe counties as well. Later, he became employed with the former Sears store in Hornell where he made lasting friendships. For 15 years he served as an Almond Town Justice and presided at 52 weddings all with different stories.
He was a member and past vice-president of the New York State Troopers Association, a charter member of the Baron Steuben Former Troopers, the Allegany Mountains Former Troopers and the Arthur H. Cunningham American Legion Post No. 440 in Hornell.
His loving family includes his wife of 57 years, Mary Anne; his two sons, Stephen Reitnauer of Andover and Joel Reitnauer of Wellsville; his three grandchildren, Hilary (Peter) Maes of Vermont, Bridget Reitnauer (Robert Romero) of Wellsville and Cecelia Reitnauer of Andover; his three great-grandchildren; his two cousins, Carl (Ann) Reitnauer of Hornell and Suzanne McCrea of Wellsville.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by several cousins.

To honor his wishes there will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to meet his family at the Bath National Cemetery where a committal service, with military honors, followed by interment, will take place at 11 a.m. Monday.
