Madlyn Lang, of Arkport

ARKPORT-Madlyn Lang , 85, of 30 West Avenue, Arkport, died Friday (May 26, 2017) at the Vincent House, in Wayland, following a long illness.

Born December 28, 1931, she was the daughter of Kathryn Kimball Lawrence and Arnold (Jake) Lawrence. Madge grew up on her parent’s farm in Arkport, and was a graduate of Arkport Central School (Class of 1949). Madge then graduated from Rochester Business Institute, earning accreditation as a medical secretary. She worked for various doctors in both Corning and Hornell.

Madge then began employment at the Arkport Central School, serving in a variety of positions including kindergarten aide, nurse’s aide, and attendance clerk throughout her career. She retired from Arkport in 1990.

Madge was a member of the Canisteo Valley Historical Society and the Arkport Alumni Association. She and her sister, Phyllis, were avid flea marketers and garage sale experts, who enjoyed buying and selling. For years the two would set up at area flea markets, often returning with more treasures than they started out with! She and Don enjoyed their winters in Florida after retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Donald Lawrence and Shelton Lawrence, and sister, Phyllis Hoyt.

Madge was married on September 26, 1952 to Donald E. Lang, who survives. She is also survived by her two sons, Jeffrey (Denise) Lang, of Arkport, and Christopher Lang of Atlanta, Georgia; her sister, Sandra Lawrence; and her two grandchildren, Adam Lang and Sadie Lang.

For everyone that knew her, she was a considerate, energetic and honest lady. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.

At the family’s request, there will be no calling hours, simply a private burial with family.

Madge’s family request that memorial donations in her name be made to either the Vincent House, P.O. Box 566, Wayland, N.Y. 14572; or the Arkport Central School Library, 35 East Avenue, Arkport, N.Y. 14807.
