Mary Louise Mattie, of Hornell

HORNELL-Mary Louise Mattie, 90, of Erie Avenue, passed away Monday afternoon (July 31, 2017) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.

Born in Hornell on Aug. 23, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Ignatius and Mary (Venuto) Mattie. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her twin brothers, Rev. Richard Mattie and the Rev. David Mattie, her two sisters, Patricia Mattie and Veronica Casaceli and her sister-in-law, Madelyn Mattie.

A lifelong resident of Hornell, Mary Louise was a graduate of St. Ann’s School, Hornell High School, class of 1945 and attended college in Geneseo,

She began her career as a bookkeeper for her family businesses in Hornell, the former Coca Cola Bottling Works and Mattie Brothers Ice Cream & Candy; she later retired from St. Ann’s Church where she was employed for many years.

Mary Louise was a devout member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church.

Her faith and family were the center of her life; her home on Erie Avenue is where everyone gathered for the holidays and special occasions. She will be remembered for being a kind, gracious and gentle woman.

Her loving family includes her brother, Ignatius Mattie of Hornell; as well as her many nieces and nephews.

The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Mary Louise Mattie.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell at the convenience of the family. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to either St. Ann’s Church of Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell or to St. Ann’s Academy, P.O. Box 446, Hornell, N.Y. 14843.
