Mayor Buckley: Statement On Sending Train Manufacturing Jobs Overseas

January 10, 2024

FROM HORNELL MAYOR JOHN BUCKLEY: “I want to share with you my thoughts on the recent decision by the White House administration to consider non-availability waivers that would allow some of the high-speed trains for the new Brightline West project to be made overseas.

“Thanks to the Buy America Act, hundreds of good paying jobs have been created at Alstom facilities in Hornell, where the first high-speed trains in America are currently being built. If passed, this decision would be in direct contradiction with the President’s pledge to invest in local communities.

“This is a defining moment for the President’s Buy America initiative, so I encourage you to share my attached letter with your listeners and readers to enlighten them on the dangers of moving ahead with this decision.”
