More Details About Sunday’s Accident In Canisteo

Steuben County Sheriff James Allard reports that on June 20th, 2021, at approximately 2:30PM, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office responded to, and investigated a personal injury motor vehicle accident, on SR-248, in the Town of Canisteo. Preliminary investigation suggests that a 2008 Dodge Avenger, driven by a 91 year old female operator, was northbound on SR-248, and attempted to complete a U-turn in the roadway, which caused the vehicle to collide with a 1966 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which was southbound on SR-248. The 58 year old male operator of the motorcycle, and his 57 year old female passenger, were ejected from the motorcycle. The operator of the motorcycle, and the passenger, were flown to Strong Memorial Hospital by LifeNet Air Medical Helicopters. They are currently reported to be in stable condition. The operator of the 2008 Dodge did not report any injuries. The investigation is continuing at this time. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Canisteo Volunteer Fire Company and Ambulance, City of Hornell Fire Department and Ambulance, Greenwood Volunteer Ambulance, and the NY State Police. The Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by Steuben County 911 Center Dispatchers who helped coordinate resources to the scene. The Sheriff’s Office thanks all first responders for their assistance in the transport and care of all the victims involved in this motor vehicle accident.
