Motorcycle/Bear Accident in Livingston County

CALEDONIA, NY – Livingston County Sheriff Tom Dougherty reports that around 11:19AM on Saturday morning, officials got a call about a motorcycle/bear accident, in the Town of Caledonia.

According to the sheriff, the bear struck the motorcyclist throwing the motorcycle rider from the motorcycle. The rider was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Dougherty says that the bear was put down by the deputies, due to its injuries. The bear carcass was turned over to a local taxidermist with an issued carcass tag. Also, the sheriff noted that Caledonia residents told Sheriff’s Office personnel that the bear has been spotted numerous times in the area.
