Mssg From Hornell School Superintendent Palotti

October 19, 2022

Dear parents and caregivers;

The Hornell City School District is conducting a comprehensive needs assessment beginning in October. The assessment is the first step in gauging the needs, efficiency, and effectiveness of the district’s work at the conclusion of the current strategic plan. The assessment should be familiar to several of the district’s stakeholders.
We conducted our last comprehensive needs assessment in 2017. The data we collected at that time has helped guide the vision of the district, and this assessment will help evaluate our success and guide us into the future.
Throughout the month of October, surveys will be pushed out to faculty, staff, students, parents, administrators, and the board of education. The survey will be tailored to each stakeholder group and will be electronic. Participation is voluntary and encouraged to identify the most important work the district should focus on first. If you are a parent of a current student, we ask that you complete the survey found by clicking here by October 31, 2022.
Focus groups will also be held November 8-9 for community members not employed by the district and without a student(s) currently enrolled. Those interested in participating in community focus groups should contact the District Office at 607-324-1302 to indicate their interest. A separate survey for alumni will also be released this month.
An executive summary of the findings is expected in December, and the administration and board will spend January 2023 analyzing the comprehensive report generated from the findings.
The community focus group may also be asked to reconvene to share their feedback on the report.
After analysis, administration along with building specific teams will develop a roadmap to outline the district’s next five-year strategic plan (for 2023-27).
Thank you for you anticipated support in completing this survey to help us with our long range planning.
