New Rules And Regulations, Being Proposed For All Firefighters

June 3, 2024

OSHA (Occupational Safety And Health Administration) Steuben County Public Safety Director Tim Marshall says OSHA is coming up with a new list of rules, requiring volunteer firefighters to do over an additional hundred hours of training out of state. Marshall also says there are all kinds of new rules from OSHA about equipment upkeep. There are reportedly new regulations about having two sets of firefighter turnout gear in case there are two house fires in one day.

Steuben County might be sending resolution to OSHA, asking for them to hold off on these new regulations, which are reportedly slated to go into effect in July.

Also, word is that fire coordinators across the state are pushing back against the new regulations.
