New Sculptures In Hornell

June 13, 2025
From Deputy Mayor Jesica Cleveland

It was an exciting day in the City of Hornell as artist Sam Castner of Ironvine Studios installed two sculptures in our downtown. The first sculpture, “Atlas Shrugged,” was placed in Union Square Park, while the second piece, “The Tracks of Hornell,” found its home on Main Street.
Castner shared that “Atlas Shrugged” was inspired by trees and meant to reflect their sustainability, making it a perfect fit for the Maple City. The striking, photographic sculpture is located near Maple Street and arrived just in time for the Thursdays in the Park summer concert series, which kicks off on June 26.
“The Tracks of Hornell” was created in collaboration with Hornell High School art students from Mr. Jamie Kull’s class. Castner explained that the students imagined the piece as telling the story of Hornell, with history bursting from the pages of a book. The sculpture features a historical timeline, references to the City’s rail history with tracks and a train, and maple leaves crafted by the students themselves. No matter where you’re standing on Main Street, the piece offers a stunning visual experience.
A big thank you to Sam Castner for his creativity and care in bringing these beautiful pieces to life. They’re sure to spark interest and catch the eye of all who pass through downtown!
