ALBANY, NY – There is a new surcharge on small businesses in New York State, an employment insurance surcharge, based on the number of employees a business has. Assemblyman Phil Palmesano explains that the state has just sent out the bills to businesses with this new surcharge on it.
According to Palmesano, he along with Senator O’Mara and others, tried to convince the governor and Albany Democrat state legislators to use the federal covid surplus money instead of passing the costs along to small businesses. Palmesano maintains that fell on deaf ears.
