No Progress on Canisteo Fire District Proposal

November 7th, 2016

CANISTEO, NY – Village of Canisteo Mayor Bill Tucker gave an update on the proposed fire district Monday night between the village, town of Canisteo, and Hartsville, and things seem to be at a temporary standstill. Tucker for the most part was tight lipped about where negotiations are at but did hint that there was some feet dragging concerning the other districts. “We sent out our proposals to the other town boards and have not heard back anything officially, so we will stick with our one year contracts for services provided for now.” When asked about the formation of the district possibly becoming a reality, Tucker was not very enthusiastic saying that there is definitely a lack of interest concerning the other parties.

Also the village is changing internet providers, dropping long serving Time Warner cable in favor of Empire Access. Also vacant seats in the upcoming village elections on March 21, 2017 will soon be made public. Trustee positions Brian Cone, Jack Beers, along with the mayor’s seat will be up for grabs.

There will be a special meeting by the board Monday, November 21, 2016 at 6:30pm for the purpose of reviewing all contracts submitted for the acceptance of one general and fire department insurance for the year beginning December 1st, 2016 through November 30, 2017.

And finally Mayor Tucker said help will be needed to assist the placing of the lights on the Christmas trees in the park this holiday season. Volunteers are to meet Saturday, November 19 at 9am to begin decoration.
