NYPAN Endorses Leslie Danks Burke

March 3, 2020

From The Leslie Danks Burke For State Senate Campaign:

Leslie Danks Burke today announced the New York Progressive Action Network (NYPAN) has endorsed her campaign to represent New York’s 58th Senate District. NYPAN is a community-based grassroots organization that mobilizes citizens and advocates for progressive change.
“I’m honored to have the support of NYPAN, a powerful force for progressive change in New York,” said Danks Burke. “As a mom, a lawyer, and a community volunteer, I’ve spent decades fighting tirelessly for my community. I’m running for State Senate because the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes deserve a leader who stands up for working families, advocates to protect our environment, and builds a better future for our children. I’m ready to keep fighting alongside NYPAN as we strive for a fairer, more just New York for everyone.”

“Leslie is a passionate and articulate advocate for two progressive issues in New York State that are particularly important to NYPAN: passing our state’s version of Medicare for All, the New York Health Act, and getting the corrupting influence of big money out of politics,” said Emily Adams, NYPAN Executive Committee member. “We look forward to working with Leslie in Albany on these and other progressive issues. New York’s Upstate residents have been represented by old-school insiders for too long, and it is time to focus on the needs of regular, working class people.”

Leslie Danks Burke is an attorney and a longtime advocate for education, healthcare, and rural economic development. She is the daughter of farmers and a mother who, together with her husband, is raising two children in this community. A Democrat, she previously ran for State Senate in the 58th in 2016, out-raising opponent incumbent Sen. Tom O’Mara by over $200,000 and receiving more voter support from outside her party than any other challenger to a sitting incumbent that year — on either side. Since 2016, Danks Burke has only increased her powerful advocacy for local community engagement and honest government.
