From NYS Democrat Chair Jay Jacobs: “Today, on this historic Juneteenth, we come together as a nation and as New Yorkers to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people and to reflect upon the long journey towards freedom and equality. Juneteenth represents a crucial milestone in our nation’s history, and with systemic injustices rooted in slavery and segregation still present today, this day allows for self-reflection on the work still left to do.
“On this day, we honor the resilience, strength, and perseverance of the Black community, who have contributed immeasurably to the fabric of our society despite enduring centuries of oppression. Let us embrace this day as an opportunity to educate ourselves, engage in the enduring work towards justice and strengthen the bonds of unity and understanding.”
