NYSUT To Hold A Conference In Rochester, About School Cell Phone Policies

January 29, 2025

New York State United Teachers is hosting a series of Disconnected conferences in cities across the state to discuss the impact of cellphones and social media on children as well as policies and practices that are working for schools and districts.

In her 2026 executive budget, Gov. Kathy Hochul called for statewide standards to ensure distraction-free schools. The proposed legislation calls for bell-to-bell restrictions, with exceptions for health and instructional purposes, and funding for districts to put locally developed policies into action by Sept.1, 2025.

At the union’s upcoming conferences, NYSUT will be facilitating conversations among educators, administrators, parents and students to help districts create their own distraction-free policies.

(The closest event to Hornell will be in Monroe County)
