STATEMENT FROM THE US SECRET SERVICE:

FROM US SENATOR CHUCK SCHUMER: “I am closely monitoring the unfolding situation at the White House Correspondents Dinner. I’m grateful for the quick response of law enforcement and am praying everyone remains safe.”
FROM US SENATOR KIRSTEN GILLIBRAND: “I’m relieved everyone attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner is safe. Law enforcement and the Secret Service responded quickly, and I’m grateful for their swift response. Political violence has no place in our democracy.”
FROM CONGRESSMAN NICK LANGWORTHY: “I share the sentiments of President Donald J. Trump in thanking the United States Secret Service for its courage and bravery under fire. An agent took a bullet to the chest. Thank God his life was saved by his vest. Law enforcement’s heroic and quick action saved the lives of many at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.”
FROM DEMOCRAT CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE AARON GIESE: “I’m grateful for the safety of the President and those in attendance at the White House Correspondents Dinners after tonight’s tragic event. “It was reassuring to see such a quick, effective response from the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies on site. My thoughts go out to the Secret Service agent shot in the incident tonight. I’m relieved that they are okay and that there are no reported significant injuries. I condemn all forms of political violence. Violence only leads to more violence. The way to solve the serious problems we face in our politics is with dialogue. I’ll be out on the campaign trail tomorrow talking to people who disagree with me, not fighting them, because that’s the way positive change happens.”
FROM GOVERNOR KATHY HOCHUL: “Thankful for the swift response by law enforcement and the Secret Service at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner tonight. Praying for the safety of everyone in attendance.”
FROM GOP CANDIDATE FOR GOVERNOR, BRUCE BLAKEMAN: ““We are happy and grateful President Tump and Melania are safe as well as the Cabinet and guests of the event. Violence has no place in political discourse and it is incumbent on Democrats to calm down the vitriolic rhetoric against the President.”
FROM STATE SENATOR GEORGE BORRELLO: “Last night’s shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was a deeply alarming incident, and my thoughts are with everyone who was there. We are relieved that President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and all attendees are safe. We are also grateful to learn that the law enforcement officer who was struck was protected by his bullet-resistant vest and is expected to make a full recovery. The bravery and rapid response of the Secret Service and law enforcement prevented what could have been a far worse tragedy, and they deserve the gratitude of every American. Political violence has no place in this country. We must stand united in that conviction.”
