O’Mara Slams State Manufacturing Policies, Blaming Them For Gunlocke Moving To Other States

January 12, 2026

State Senator Tom O’Mara gave his thoughts on the news of furniture manufacturer Gunlocke’s upcoming closure in Wayland next year.  “Just this past week, we learned on Friday that Gunlocke Furniture company in Wayland, which is Steuben County, my district, is closing up,” O’Mara said.  “It’s not going out of business.  They are moving their production to other states.  Gunlocke Furniture has been in Wayland, New York, for over 120 years producing high end office furniture,” O’Mara said.  “In fact, they designed an ergonomic office desk chair for President John F. Kennedy because he had back issues.  It’s a famous company, leaving New York.”

O’Mara made those comments Monday afternoon, during a state senate press conference about the senate GOP’s legislation, called Save New York.
