FROM NYSP: On April 15, 2025, New York State Police, with the assistance of the Corning Police Department and Steuben County law enforcement agencies, arrested Joseph L. Nichols, age 32, of Painted Post, NY, in connection with the theft of a 2017 Ford Explorer reported stolen from a residence in the town of Campbell.
At approximately 6:17 a.m., Steuben County 911 received a call reporting a suspicious vehicle left in the roadway on East Corning Road. Upon arrival, NYSP Troopers and Corning Police located the Explorer parked facing the wrong direction in the westbound lane on East Corning Road.
Corning PD located the male subject nearby. The individual, identified as Joseph L. Nichols, was subsequently detained and taken into custody by Troopers and was transported to SP Painted Post for further interview and processing.
Nichols was charged with:
- Grand Larceny in the 3rd (D Felony)
- VTL Violations
Nichols was processed without incident and transported to the Steuben County Jail for CAP arraignment.
