For Corning Republican, Republican Assemblyman Phil Palmesano, one of the most important laws he’s gotten passed in the 15 years he’s been an elected official, is an organ donor law. In 2012, Palmesano got Lauren’s Law signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo. Lauren’s Law makes it so when you get your driver’s license at the DMV, you can check a box to sign up to become an organ donor.
The reason this is so important to Palmesano is, he’s an organ donor himself. He donated a kidney to his sister Teresa in 2006. “If you’re already a donor today, thank you,” Palmesano said. “If you’re not, please consider being an organ donor. I recognize that this is a tough issue to talk about, because this about one’s own death. But lets do more, lets do better, lets save lives,” Palmesano said.
