Palmesano: Zeldin And The Court Were Right About Climate Change Penalties

Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C-Corning) is applauding a court decision which struck down a plan to make energy producers pay $75 billion to combat climate change. The court said New York was overstepping its responsibility and intruding into an area where the federal government has authority. The federal court ruling came in response to a challenge to the law brought by the EPA, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and a coalition of state attorneys general.

“Penalizing businesses retroactively that followed all of the laws, rules and regulations would send a terrible message to the business community and just discourage more private-sector investment and job creation in New York’s economy at a time when New York already faces one of the worst tax, regulatory, competitive and business climates in the country. My Senate and Assembly Republican colleagues and I will continue to support a common-sense energy policy that promotes and protects energy affordability, reliability, feasibility, fuel diversity and energy choice, because New Yorkers deserve nothing less,” said Palmesano.
