Peggy (Gordon) “Peg” Zaparzynski, of Hornell

HORNELL-Peggy (Gordon) “Peg” Zaparzynski, 76, of The Woodlands Mobile Home Park, 1190 County Route 66, passed away late Thursday evening (Jan. 17, 2019) at Elderwood at Hornell.

Born in Chicago, Ill. on Oct. 10, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Warren and Rochelle (Spilky) Gordon. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her son, Jerry Tibbitt; her daughter, Barbara Lynn Tibbitt; her stepson, Billy Zaparzynski; her sister, Barbara Bacon; her brother, David Gordon and her three sisters-in-law of Elmira, Delka, Cecilia and Helen.

A resident of Hornell since 1961, Peg was employed at Wegmans, the former Marion Rohr’s and the Tuttle & Rockwell Department Store in Hornell. For several years she also served as a volunteer at St. James Hospital in Hornell.

Peg was a loving and very devoted wife and mother, who cherished her children. Her heart was always at home with her family and she preferred being there with them.

She enjoyed Facebook, swimming, reading, doing crossword puzzles and bowling with friends on Wednesday afternoons. She also loved telling dirty jokes, especially to people who wouldn’t expect some of the punch lines. Peg will be remembered for being a fun loving, easy going, happy go lucky “nut” who really enjoyed the ride through life.

Her loving family includes her husband of 40 years, Edward Zaparzynski, who she married in 1979; her two sons, Michael (Michele) McGruther of Downingtown, Pa. and Allan Edward Zaparzynski of Los Angeles, Calif.; her three step-children, Irene Farrell of Dansville, Edward Zaparzynski of Las Vegas, Nev. And Jeffrey Zaparzynski of Hornell; her three grandchildren that she adored, Sarah Tibbitt, Christopher Seymour and Reagan McGruther; as well as her three nephews.

The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Peggy (Gordon) “Peg” Zaparzynski.

There will be an hour of calling from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 22, 2019) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 12:30 p.m., with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Committal services and interment will follow at Bath National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the UR Medicine Wilmot Cancer Institute, 111 Clara Barton St., Dansville, N.Y. 14437. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of Elderwood at Hornell for the wonderful care they gave to Peggy.
