Possible Renovation Grant For Downtown Hornell

June 15, 2015

HORNELL NY – Mayor Shawn Hogan, at the Common Council meeting Monday night, asked for and got approval from the council to submit an application for a grant that will go to downtown property owners in the amount of $250,000.00 for renovations.

If the Grant is awarded to Hornell the renovations will be for areas such as; Main, Seneca, Broadway, Center, River and Loder street locations.

Hogan also announced the intention to apply for grants that will be used for infrastructure, such as the sleeve that was put on the one hundred plus year old sewer line that runs down Elm Street. Hogan wants to fix the sewer lines that run in the other direction from the intersection from Center Street running to Broadway as a preventative maintenance action. Hogan announced there will be a public hearing on the issue later in the month.

Mayor Hogan also commented on the topic of the streets condition which have taken a beating over the winter months, adding that this year they are adding an additional $500,000.00 in funds on top of the usual amount designated to repair the damage to city streets, with an additional $500,000.00 being spent next year as well.
