After Hornell scored three runs in the 9th, the Genesee Rapids rallied for five runs in the bottom of the inning to walk off with a wild 8-7 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Hornell jumped out to an early lead when Braden McLin (Louisiana Christian) singled, stole second, went to third on a ground out and scored on a RBI grounder by Elijah Nichols (Arkansas State). One pitch later Brody Langlotz (Gulf State College) connected on a solo homer to make it 2-0.
The Rapids tied the game in the 2nd when Nick Moyer hit a two-run homer to left.
Hornell loaded the bases to start the 3rd inning and took a 3-2 lead when McLin scored when the Rapids turned a double play. Genesee tied it right back up in the bottom of the inning when Dawson George connected on a RBI single.
In the 5th, Cooper Dailey (Delgado CC) was hit by a pitch, went to third on a ground rule double by Nichols and scored on a sac fly by Rustin Pope (Coastal Alabama North CC).
The game remained 4-3 until the 9th. Devin Mersmann (Alfred State) led off with a double and scored on a RBI single by McLin. Pope followed a few batters later with a RBI single and Danik Reed (Nunez CC) made it 7-3 with a sac fly.
Genesee loaded the bases with one out in the 9th. Andrew Tseng was hit by a pitch to drive in a run and Joshua Fuentes scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-5. After a strikeout, Joshua Welch was hit by a pitch and Kanta Ueno ended the game with a two-run single to left.
Mersmann and McLinn each collected three hits. Mersmann was 3 for 4 while McLinn was 3 for 5 with a RBI. Mason McClurg (Finger Lakes CC) pitched well but did not factor in the decision. He threw 5.2 innings, allowed seven hits and three earned runs while walking three and striking out three. Shawn Kimball (Genesee CC) allowed two hits and no runs in 2.1 innings of relief.
Tseng was 4 for 4 for Genesee while Moyer was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.
Hornell begins a stretch of three straight Kids Day games on Monday with a 10:30 a.m. contest at Olean.
