Rapids Beat Steamers Tuesday Night, Steamers In Hornell Tonight

The Genesee Rapids scored 12 unanswered runs as they rallied for a 15-5 victory over the Hornell Steamers on Tuesday night.

Jason Story (Utica) tripled and scored on a fielding error in the 1st to give Hornell the early lead. Tyler Curtis (Fredonia) followed with a RBI single to make it 2-0.

The Rapids got on the board with a pair of runs in the 3rd but Hornell answered back with three of their own in the bottom of the inning. Noah Brooks (Siena) and Curtis hit back-to-back RBI doubles and DJ Stoianovich (Finger Lakes CC) followed with a RBI single to make it 5-2.

Genesee cut it to 5-3 with a single run in the 5th and took the lead for good with six in the 6th inning. They added four more in the 7th and two in the 8th.

The Rapids collected 20 hits on the game led by Eli MacDonald’s 4 for 6, 4 RBI day. Key to the comeback with the relief pitching of James Ross. Ross went four innings without allowing a run. He surrendered three hits and a walk while striking out six.

Curtis led Hornell with a 3 for 4, 2 RBI day. Stoianovich was 2 for 4 with a RBI while Ryan Hill (Mercyhurst) was 2 for 4.

Hornell and Genesee battle again tonight, at Maple City Park. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
