Raymond E. Oyer, formerly of Hornell

HONEOYE/HORNELL-Raymond E. Oyer, 75 of Honeoye, formerly of Hornell, passed away early Monday morning (July 22, 2019) at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua.

Born in Hornell on March 20, 1944, he was a son of the late Ellsworth and Rheda (Sell) Oyer.

A graduate of Hornell High School, Ray has resided in Honeoye since 1968. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army from 1965 to his honorable discharge in 1967.

After his military service he began his 44-year career with the railroad, retiring as an engineer with CSX.

Ray was a member of the Arthur H. Cunningham American Legion Post No. 440 in Hornell and the Hornell Elks Lodge No. 364. He enjoyed spending time hunting and playing golf.

His loving family includes two sons, Luke and his wife, Devin Oyer and his two grandsons, Kadigan and Lauklin Oyer, Josh Oyer and Jani Long of Los Angeles, Calif..; his three brothers, Rev. Robert and his wife, Irene Oyer of Holley, N.Y., Richard Oyer of Hornell and James and his wife, Charlotte Oyer of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; as well as his nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours are 4-6 p.m. today (July 25, 2019) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral service will be held for his family at 10 a.m. Friday (July 26, 2019), with his brother, the Rev. Robert Oyer officiating. Committal services and interment, with military honors, will follow at Rural Cemetery, Hornell.

The United States flag and the Army flag will proudly fly at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in recognition of Ray’s military service.
