WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Tom Reed has issued the following statement:
Tom Reed announced the deal between Alstom in Hornell and Amtrak has officially been finalized. “This is a great day for Hornell and the entire region. By finalizing this contract we are bringing critically needed quality, family sustaining jobs to the area. The acceptance of this deal recognizes our outstanding local workforce,” said Reed. “We have worked with our local and national partners, Alstom and Amtrak for years to get this deal over the finish line and make sure those workers get a fair shot of these jobs. It’s great to see that finally happen.”
The finalization of the deal, which is expected to create 400 jobs to Alstom at Hornell, will be announced in Wilmington, Delaware by Vice President Joe Biden at 4:00 p.m on Friday, August 26, 2016. The contract is part of the $2.5 billion Acela Express services program, which aims to modernize Amtrak’s rail cars. Reed was personally involved with both Alstom and Amtrak to be sure that our workers got fair consideration for these jobs.
“Jobs like these mean food on tables for local families. It means new school clothes for kids, new cars, and a warmer winter for so many. We are looking forward to the job fairs this fall and getting the hard working men and women of our region back to work.”
