Richard W. “Dick” Marsh, of Jasper

JASPER: Richard W. “Dick” Marsh, of Marsh Hill Rd. went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ peacefully Sunday morning (Sept. 25, 2016) at Hornell Gardens where he had resided since November of 2015.

Dick was born March 26, 1927 in the town of Jasper the son of the late Wayne and Mildred (Dennis) Marsh. On November 2, 1947 in South Canisteo he married the former Norva Foster who survives and resides in Hornell.

Dick was a lifelong resident of the Jasper area where he made his living as a dairy farmer and raised his family. He was the fifth generation of the Marsh family to own and operate “Mountain Air Farms, which was established in 1846 and was honored in receiving the “Distinguished Dairy Award”.

He was a graduate of Jasper High School Class of 1946, was a member of the Addison Milk Coop., former member of the Jasper Grange, and a member of the Adrian Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and Trustee for many years.

In addition to his wife of nearly 69 years, Norva Marsh, Dick is survived by a daughter Deanna (Melvin) Hibbard of Canisteo, two sons: Richard D. (Susan) Marsh of Horseheads and Philip (Christine) Marsh of Jasper. Seven grandchildren: Colleen (Garvin) Button, Ryan Marsh, Matthew (Karen) Hibbard, Kathy (Phil) Halberg, Lucas (Cathlene) Hibbard, Nick (Kelly) Marsh and Tracy (Jimmy) Marotto and 12 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Dick was predeceased by a brother: Frank D. Marsh and a sister: Eleanor Taggart.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-8 pm Thursday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, where a funeral service will take place Friday at 11:00 am with Rev. Vaughn VanSkiver officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo.
