Robert “Bob” Moir, of Arkport

ARKPORT-Robert “Bob” Moir went to be with the Lord, with his family by his side, on March 4, 2019 after fighting a long battle of COPD.

He was born March 18, 1944 to Stanley and Pauline (Monson) Moir in Bath.

He was married to Nancy (Snyder) Moir, his childhood sweetheart for 57 plus years, who survives. He was predeceased by four brothers: Galen (Dale), Wendel, Rodney (Ronnie) and David. He is survived by one sister, Valerie Moir, in New Jersey.

He is also survived by one son, Robert Jr. (Angie) of McKean, PA, three daughters, Barbara (Dennis) Hamilton of Sanford, NC, Brenda (Kevin) Dodge of Alfred Station, and Bonnie (Rod) Henry of Arkport. Eight Grandchildren, Joshua Moir of McKean, PA, Kandyss (Spurgeon) Foster of Hampton, VA, Kara Gregory of Sanford, NC, Kristi (Tyler) Garrison of Snow Camp, NC, Kraig Hamilton of Addison, Bryan (Aimee) Dodge of Alfred Station, Justin (Emilea Harrison) Henry of Wheeler, and Danielle (Trevor Six) of Seattle, Washington. Six great-grandchildren, Jaela Moir, Rebecca and Wyatt Garrison, Makenzie and Emilie Gregory, and Colin Dodge. Also, many nieces and nephews.

Bob loved his family and enjoyed having them around playing cards, telling stories of their growing up years to their children. He often spoke of how lucky he was for having such a close and great family.

Bob loved the outdoors, golfing, hunting and fishing. He also loved taking care of his lawn! He loved his dogs and especially his latest companion Sophie, who was always by his side. He loved sports, especially football. Bob was a loyal fan of the Buffalo Bills since they formed.

Bob worked at the former AKZO Nobel Salt Company in Rets of for 29 years before the collapse of the mine. He then was employed by St. James Mercy Hospital as a rural courier for eight years until his retirement.

On March 16th there will be calling hours from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM with a memorial service following at 1pm at the Bender – Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street, Hornell, NY with Reverend Dena Stevens officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Arkport United Methodist Church, Vincent House in Wayland or the Fremont Ambulance Corps in his memory.
